That was taken in Germany (not sure of the location) Pilot was G Aird. He had a fire in the reheat section of the jet. He landed in a green house and the farmer wasn't too happy.

I think the pilot just fertilized his field for him. (Or at least the pilot's shorts.)

Bob's copilot was not too enthused about the short-field landing curriculum.

A chap I met had this cutting in his wallet, he said he was the navigator in the ejector seat in the photo and landed safely, the pilot ejected later and broke a bone. I think a Brownie Box camera was used.

I think I have got it very wrong a slightly better image here shows the pilot has left the aircraft http://www.ejection-history.org.uk/PROJECT/Biographies/A/Aird_george/aird_george.htm

Some over-active imaginations here. The aircraft was a single-seater so I would be interested to know where the navigator was stowed.
The pilot was George Aird and it happened a mile or two from the de Havilland airfield at Hatfield during Firestreak missile tests on 13th September 1962.
